Owharoa Falls

Actually a series of three waterfalls, Owharoa Falls are a couple of kilometers’ drive away from popular Karangahake Gorge. The first and third waterfalls are well accessible, and only the top of the second one can be seen from the road. Unique surroundings and the beauty of the falls make these waterfalls part of New Zealand Must See Waterfalls list.

Owharoa is actually a series of three waterfalls but it’s the one closest to the Highway 2 end of Waitawheta Road that gets all the glory. At around 6m, it’s not particularly high but its distinctive upside down fan shape and moss covered steps do make for some pretty photos. As an added bonus it also makes for a nice picnic/swimming spot on a hot day.
